L1 Network Engineer
Job Description:
The L1 Network Engineer is responsible for providing first-level technical support and troubleshooting in network infrastructure, ensuring network uptime and performance. This role involves diagnosing and resolving network issues, monitoring network operations, and escalating more complex problems to higher-level engineers.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Continuously monitor network performance using network management tools, identify issues, and take corrective actions.
- Provide first-level troubleshooting for network issues such as connectivity problems, device malfunctions, and basic configuration issues.
- Log, track, and resolve network incidents, ensuring all incidents are documented and addressed within SLAs.
- Assist in the configuration and maintenance of routers, switches, and other network devices.
- Escalate unresolved or complex network issues to L2 or L3 support teams, following proper escalation protocols.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network setups, configurations, and incidents.
- Work closely with the IT support team, network administrators, and external vendors to ensure the stability and reliability of the network.
- Provide timely updates to clients or internal teams on network issues, incidents, or ongoing troubleshooting efforts.
- Coordinate with network equipment vendors for hardware and software updates, repairs, and replacements.
- Provide technical support to end-users, including troubleshooting their network-related issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- CCNA certification or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing, and switching protocols.
- Basic knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, etc.).
- Ability to troubleshoot Layer 1 and Layer 2 network issues.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
